Welcome To DownloadNintendoWii.com
Upon buying the wonderful Nintendo Wii, many people try to get free games by joining these Nintendo Wii download clubs. What I have found is that the club consists of the buyer being given a login and password to download an ebook that tells you how to illegally download games and how to burn them onto a disc. This is not only illegal but usually requires you to modify your Wii console with what's known as a mod-chip. What the mod-chip does is make the Wii console ignore the fact that the disk isn't an original factory created copy, allowing it to load the game as normal. The problem with this method is that you have to download the game, usually via peer to peer networks, meaning your IP address can be recorded having done so leaving you vulnerable to be prosecuted and hit with a large fine in the future as many people have already (think mp3s!). The next problem is that the mod-chip can 'brick' your Wii console (as in making it about as good as a brick for playing Wii games) rendering it useless. It may not happen straight away, but a new firmware service update might make the mod-chip incompatible in the future. My advice is give the download clubs a miss and avoid having someone open up your beloved Wii and start soldering away!
It is much better to pay for your games (giving you a nice warm feeling) and then make sure that a backup copy is made in case your game disc is damaged. Creating a backup copy of your games, provided you own them, is legal and wise. There's nothing worse than coming home and finding that your 4 year nephew has been playing Frisbee with your games discs and scratched the hell out of them. Thanks to those clever people who love explore how technology works there are now ways to backup your Wii games.
What this method involves is installing a new Wii channel on your console. If you're not familiar with Channels on your Nintendo Wii, you may have noticed the different boxes on your Wii consoles start up page: There's the Internet Channel, Weather Channel. Below are the best sites I've found to guide you through this process, No they are not free, but they aren't expensive. For the price of takeout food you can copy your Wii games. You could waste hours surfing the we to find out how to do it for free, but in all likelihood there won't be clear help, but possibly outdated unprofessional , unguided instructions.
